Objectives
Our Business English training courses will improve your confidence when speaking and communicating in English with other native and non-native English-speakers in a business context. You will develop and refine your written communication skills as well as expand and enhance your vocabulary and fluency.
The course focuses on real business situations and topics that professionals and managers encounter in their professional life, when they need to communicate clearly and powerfully, when they need to concentrate on what they are saying, not on how to say it in English.
Content
Business English lessons aim to empower the participant’s communication within a specific business context, and extend their active vocabulary and expressions, sector terminology, as well as more general business English.
The course covers the following communication skills, that are further defined after a Training Needs Analysis in consultation with the client:
- Dealing with Clients and Colleagues – to develop clear and powerful communication skills and in particular how to alter the “tone” and “register” of what you say.
- Effective Telephoning, Meetings and Conference Calls – to increase spoken confidence and listening comprehension with native and non-native speakers of English. This module also includes interpersonal skills training e.g. Effective Presentation Skills, Negotiation Techniques and Intercultural Awareness.
- Function and Form – to add language flexibility and accuracy e.g. specific areas of vocabulary and synonyms, coaching in grammar and structure.
- Case Studies – use and application of specific realistic situations faced by professionals in your sector to extend vocabulary and practice all four English communication skills (reading, writing, speaking and listening). These skills are practiced and refined using authentic case studies in areas such as sales and distribution, HR, law & legal, marketing, technology, strategic planning, finance & economics, and budgeting & accounts.
- Correspondence and Reports – an analysis of clear writing and reading comprehension for e-mail, reports, manuals and other business documents in English.
Methodology
Our Business English course is designed to produce verifiable results and real improvements in your English fluency and comprehension in a professional context, with a strong focus on client satisfaction and consultation. The course combines lessons given by a qualified native English trainer with constant support and advice from our Business English tutors to help our clients develop the confidence, skills and structure they need to succeed in an international business environment.
We believe the result of any English language training course should be an improvement not only in the student’s knowledge of English, but more importantly in the application of English: to speak and communicate in English confidently, whether in a meeting, on the telephone, giving a presentation, researching for a report, or writing an email. The fastest and most effective method to develop confidence and accuracy is ‘learning by doing’.
The Business English lessons with the teacher not only deal with practicing and correcting expression and style, the use of vocabulary and of grammar, but also emphasize the application of English to real business situations and the client's job through simulations, case studies, role-plays and real-life materials.
Structure
The Business English course consists of three parts:
- Face-to-face training: Our qualified native English business language trainers make extensive use of role-plays, simulations and practice exercises. Small group or individual lessons focus on the practical application of new learning to increase confidence and accuracy when the client needs to manage meetings, presentations and negotiations in English. Every lesson is focused on developing the communication abilities and styles needed, applying and perfecting pronunciation and fluency, and developing the student’s comprehension of native and non-native English speakers, enabling the student to participate in verbal and written communication confidently and effectively.
- Coaching & English Helpdesk: Your personal Business English language coach provides support and guidance during the course, answering your questions on the appropriate professional use of English, the course content and study techniques. Your coach also acts as your personal assistant for English, helping you with proof-reading and correcting your reports, emails and other business correspondence, and developing your understanding of the different cultural perspectives and expectations involved in handling international business relationships in English.
- Testing and Certification: The initial phase of the
course consists of a TNA process including an entrance test, individual
interview, and the subsequent personalization of the course content
and study agenda to meet your language learning objectives. The measurement
and assessment of the client’s Business English communication
abilities is key to the learning process, for which we adhere to the
CEF standards. The CEF standards (Common European Framework of Reference
for Languages) was drawn up by the European Commission to provide a
transparent and transferable language competency levels
framework for evaluating and comparing
language training.
